What diversity means at YSP
Diversity at YSP extends beyond geography and includes, but is not limited to:
- Cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
- Socioeconomic status.
- Gender identities and expressions.
- Educational access and academic pathways.
- Language and communication styles.
- Political and social viewpoints.
Our commitment to equity
Equity means providing individuals with the support, resources, and opportunities they need to participate meaningfully. We commit to:
- Designing opportunities accessible to youth from different economic and educational backgrounds.
- Offering flexible participation structures that accommodate academic schedules, caregiving responsibilities, and regional limitations.
- Prioritizing merit, potential, and commitment over formal credentials or institutional affiliation.
Building an inclusive environment
We foster inclusion by:
- Encouraging open dialogue and respectful disagreement.
- Actively inviting perspectives from underrepresented groups during discussions and projects.
- Ensuring leadership structures remain approachable and accountable to the broader membership.
Representation in leadership
- Encourage members from underrepresented backgrounds to apply for leadership roles.
- Maintain transparent and fair selection processes for leadership and project opportunities.
- Regularly review leadership composition to ensure it reflects the diversity of our global membership.
Inclusive communication
- Avoid unnecessarily technical or exclusionary terminology where possible.
- Provide summaries or simplified explanations for complex policy topics.
- Encourage members to ask questions and seek clarification without fear of judgment.
Accessibility in a remote environment
- Use widely available, low‑cost, or free collaboration tools whenever possible.
- Schedule meetings with sensitivity to time zone differences and provide asynchronous alternatives.
- Share recordings, notes, and written updates so members who cannot attend live remain informed.
Safeguarding & respectful conduct
YSP maintains a zero‑tolerance stance toward discrimination, harassment, or exclusionary behaviour based on race, gender, religion, nationality, disability, sexual orientation, or socioeconomic background. Reports are reviewed fairly and confidentially.
Partnerships & external engagement
We work with organizations that demonstrate similar respect for youth participation and inclusive practices. In public advocacy, research, and campaigns, we amplify voices that are often overlooked in traditional policy spaces — particularly those from developing regions and marginalized communities.
Continuous reflection
Building a truly inclusive organization is an ongoing process. We periodically review this pledge and our internal processes to ensure they remain relevant, effective, and aligned with the needs of our members.
Our public pledge
YSP publicly affirms its commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in all aspects of its operations. By adopting this pledge, we commit to translating our values into measurable actions, transparent practices, and accountable leadership.
